Grid Simulators
When researching grid powered products, choosing the right test system could transform your research programme.
A grid simulator allows users to investigate how changes to the mains voltage affects a grid connected device's behaviour in a closed circuit. Conditions which are commonly recreated include voltage dips, short interruptions and immunity to variations in voltage level.
Every grid simulator from ETPS provides 4 quadrant operation, with the ability to both sink and source AC power. High power single and three phase systems both feature in the range. Modular grid simulators are available with individually programmable phases for AC/DC voltage, frequency, current, phase angles and superimposed harmonics. Parallel systems into the megawatt range are possible.
RLC load mode software is available with modular EAC-ACS-4Q systems which enables the user to set apparent and reactive power. Adjustable power factor is also provided. The simulated impedance is particularly useful for users who design, research and develop renewable systems which feed energy to the public grid. The software allows the unit to test against anti-islanding regulations for grid-tied power systems.
For more advanced requirements, a grid simulation GUI allows tests to be programmed for grid feed-in regulations including: CENELEC, DIN & IEC. The software features a Fourier tool that can create virtually any conceivable periodic waveform. Superimposed harmonic and inter-harmonic voltages are programmable up to 5000Hz.

- If you need to simulate a unidirectional grid, our single phase EAC-S and three phase EAC-3S power supplies have a built-in test sequence to perform pre-compliance checks against EN 61000-4-11.
- If you need to test AC sources, ELPA-SINE unidirectional AC loads can be used in single or three phase configurations.
- Integrations with Power Hardware-in-the-Loop (PHIL) systems are possible. Contact ETPS for more information.
